Chess and Blitz Chess

Psychology of Chess

"Your winning because your thinking too long" ! This was said to me recently wile playing a game of blitz chess on www.gameknot.com .  This is very interesting because winning at blitz is a balance between spending a lot of time making a move vs. moving quickly to exploit your ability to think faster than your opponent. The end result after additional comments about my play ended in a tilt. That is, I was put at a psychological disadvantage and ended up loosing a winning game. Keep this ploy in mind because it can sometimes help your speed game.

If you have any interesting info on blitz please send me an email at n8ea@arrl.net

I have several boxes of chess books for sale. contact me at the above email address if interested.

I like blitz chess much better than standard chess because I use it as part of a mental exercise routine.

My favorite chess masters are Capablanca, Alekhine, Koltanowski, Fisher and Botvinnik.

I am interested in the Psychology of chess and chess players. I have read and thought about the subject for many years and may add to this web some writings on the subject. I have a BS in Electronic Engineering from Lawrence Technological Institute (Botvinnik - Electrical Engineer) and BS in Psychology from Wayne State University. Now that I am retired I enjoy playing blitz almost every day.

My chess history: learned to play in the early 50's around age of 10 by watching other kids play at summer school. Won top unrated prize (circa 1970) at my first USCF chess tournament at University of Detroit. Failed at additional tournament play. I have lived in the Detroit Metro area since 1962.

I enjoy many aspects of the game and now only play blitz on www.gameknot.com . I have a long list of people on my "Ignore List" at that site and consider it pure Psychology of Chess.

To keep in shape you must do both physical and mental exercise. Chess is excellent mental exercise - I prefer Blitz Chess - which is "aerobic".

Selected interview and videos of famous chess players:

George Koltanowski 1903-2000, had a program on chess on Detroit TV many years ago , I think the mid 60s - which I loved. http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/kolt.html
